Introducing 1941.

A joint initiative of Bondi Partners and Ellerston Capital.

Overview.

1941 helps Australian and U.S. businesses harness the world-leading expertise and resources needed to deliver innovative technologies and products that address national security challenges now and into the future.

The Fund is a joint initiative of Bondi Partners and Ellerston Capital which identifies, invests in and helps grow the next generation of Australian and U.S. success stories – focused on national security dual-use businesses and technologies – across both sides of the Pacific Ocean.

1941 focuses on early-stage private businesses and select investments in later-stage businesses and listed growth companies, particularly in the defence, intelligence, cyber and space industries, and other dual-use businesses with a commercial application to the national security sector.

National security is a cornerstone of the Australia-U.S. relationship. Ever since Australian Prime Minister John Curtin turned towards the U.S. for defence support in 1941, the relationship between Australia and the U.S. has continued to grow. In 2021, 80 years after this momentous decision, we have seen the importance of the alliance between Australia and the U.S. prosper with the formation of AUKUS.

1941 is the investment opportunity in national security.

Portfolio.

The Whiskey Project Group

The Whiskey Project Group is a trusted and proven Australian maritime organisation whose businesses have a collective 90 years spanning the end-to-end design, manufacturing, maintenance, and sustainment of high-performance watercraft. The Whiskey Project watercraft are the product of collaboration between experienced military operators and world class maritime engineers, architects and innovators.

The Whiskey Project Group has proudly played a role in the design and build of more than 200 watercraft for government agencies, and all three of The Whiskey Project Group’s businesses are contracted suppliers to defense across watercraft design, manufacturing and innovation projects.

SPEE3D

SPEE3D is a leading metal additive manufacturing technology company dedicated to the research, development, and delivery of metal 3D printers and integrated systems utilizing its patented Cold Spray Additive Manufacturing (CSAM) technology. The technology is world-leading, being the only in-field 3D printer being used in combat zones for Australia and its allies.

SPEE3D’s portfolio offers significantly faster production than traditional metal manufacturing methods and offers a wide range of metals.

LeoLabs

LeoLabs has the world’s largest and most comprehensive commercial catalog of objects in low Earth orbit. It is transforming the way satellite operators, commercial enterprises and federal agencies across the world launch and track missions in low Earth orbit.

Through its vertically integrated technology system, Vertex™, and its six patented radars globally, LeoLabs delivers the information needed to succeed in today’s space race. With unmatched LEO coverage, real-time tracking and powerful insights, companies and governments rely on LeoLabs to execute a wide array of operations in space.

Fleet Space Technologies

Fleet Space Technologies is a growing Australian dual use space company. Its nano-satellite system in space connects to ground sensors that can scan the earth for the most likely spots for lithium and rare earth minerals.

Fleet has a growing blue chip customer base, including Rio Tinto, Barrick Gold, Iluka, AngloGold and Core Lithium. In 2023, the company also won an Australian Defence contract to demonstrate a low earth orbit satellite communication system with focus on tactical voice and data transmission.

With You With Me

Founded by an ex-military veteran, WithYouWithMe started as a talent incubation program to develop and transition military members back to the industry and has now evolved to an end-to-end enterprise software that enables organisations to discover the potential in people, train digital skills, deploy the right talent and grow digital capability.

With the chronic shortage of tech skills globally, and the ability to retrain military veterans for trusted national security roles, 1941 believes WYWM can benefit naturally from growing government and national security related staffing needs.

SwitchDin

SwitchDin develops and commercialises AI-driven software used by enterprises and energy utilities to manage and optimise distributed energy resources (e.g. solar panels, batteries) and overall network performance. The company serves customers across Australia, the US, and Europe and benefits from early-to-market positioning and competitive advantages in energy technology.

SwitchDin’s technology is sector agnostic and is expected to have application to the defence sector. SwitchDin is well-leveraged to the rapid global adoption of distributed and renewable energy, entering a high-growth phase supported by government incentives and strong market tailwinds.

Firmus

Firmus is an Australian company with an operating business (data centre) in Singapore and a site in Launceston (Tasmania), where it plans to build Australia’s first GPU-as-a-Service data centre (“AI factory”). The company operates a profitable AI cloud facility in Singapore in partnership with ST Telemedia Global Data Centres and the Singapore Government and is now advancing its flagship project in Tasmania - which will be one of the most efficient AI factories globally and lowest cost in APAC. Unlike traditional data centres, which provide only the physical premises for clients to install and manage their own hardware, AI factories are purpose-built to supply on-demand compute power, enabling clients to access high-performance GPUs without the cost and complexity of ownership.

AI factories have a direct and growing connection to National Security as they are essentially the industrial base for advanced AI. Military, intelligence, and cyber defence systems increasingly depend on AI for surveillance, threat detection, logistics optimisation and decision support. Nations without domestic AI factory capacity risk depending on foreign controlled infrastructure - a potential vulnerability in times of geopolitical tension.

The global AI boom is creating unprecedented demand for such facilities, with more than US$5 trillion of investment in data centres expected by 2030 (+125 GW of capacity). Firmus has already secured critical milestones and partnerships to capitalise on this trend, including strategic investor support from NVIDIA, ensuring priority access to supply-constrained AI chips.
