The Hon. Peter McGauran
Peter served as Australia’s Consul-General and Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner to Houston, Texas, following a distinguished career in both the public and private sectors in Australia.
Peter was a Member of the Australian Parliament for 25 years between 1984 and 2008 where he served as a Minister for more than 10 years in portfolios including agriculture, industry, communications and immigration. As Minister for Agriculture, Peter was a strong proponent of free and fair trade and was instrumental in negotiation of the initial stages of Free Trade Agreements with China, Japan and Korea. He also chaired the Cairns Group of agricultural countries, including the U.S., at a crucial period and drove commitments to break down artificial barriers to trade.
On his retirement from Federal Parliament, Peter became chief executive of Thoroughbred Breeders Australia and later led Racing Australia, the national regulatory authority for racing in Australia where he instituted the most significant animal welfare and integrity reforms in the history of Australian breeding and racing.
Peter uses his extensive experience in trade relations to advise clients on their strategic positioning in Australia, the U.S. and the Indo-Pacific.
